The Two Types of "Hidden" Posts on Facebook
Before unhiding, it helps to understand the difference:
-
Posts hidden from your profile (archived) โ These are your own posts that you've hidden so they don't appear on your timeline. They're in your archive and only visible to you.
-
Posts hidden from your News Feed โ These are other people's posts you've chosen not to see. They're still visible to everyone else; you just won't see them in your feed.
The process to unhide them is different for each.
How to Unhide Your Own Post from Your Profile
If you've hidden (archived) one of your own posts and want it back on your timeline:
On mobile:
- Go to your Profile
- Tap the three dots (...) below your cover photo โ Archive (or go to Activity Log)
- In the Archive, find the post you want to restore
- Tap the three dots (...) on the post
- Tap Unarchive or Show on profile
The post reappears on your timeline in its original chronological position.
On desktop:
- Click your name to go to your profile
- Click Activity Log (three dots under your cover photo or via Settings)
- Click Archive in the left panel
- Find the post
- Click ... โ Unarchive
How to Unhide a Post Using Activity Log
Activity Log is Facebook's complete record of everything on your account โ it's the most reliable place to find and restore hidden posts.
On mobile:
- Tap your profile photo โ Activity log
- Tap Filter and select Your posts or Hidden from profile
- Find the post
- Tap three dots โ Show on profile or Unarchive
On desktop:
- Go to your profile
- Click the three dots under your cover photo โ Activity log
- On the left sidebar, look for Hidden from profile or Archive
- Find the post and click Show on profile
How to Unhide a Post in Your News Feed (Other People's Posts)
If you clicked "Hide post" on someone else's post and want to see their content again, Facebook doesn't have an easy undo button โ but you can manage it through settings.
Option 1 โ Snooze vs. Hide
If you selected "Snooze [name] for 30 days", that expires automatically. If you selected "Hide all from [name]", you need to undo that manually.
On mobile:
- Tap โฐ (Menu) โ Settings & privacy โ Settings
- Tap News Feed โ News Feed preferences (or search "News Feed" in settings)
- Tap Reconnect with people you unfollowed or Manage who you follow
- Find the person or Page and tap to re-follow or undo the hide
On desktop:
- Click the down arrow (โผ) or your profile photo โ Settings & privacy โ Settings
- Click News Feed preferences on the left (or search for it)
- Under Reconnect, find the person or Page you hid content from
- Click to re-follow or un-hide their posts
How to Find Posts You've Hidden on Facebook
If you've hidden many posts and aren't sure where to find them:
- Go to Activity Log (profile โ three dots โ Activity log)
- On the left sidebar, look for Hidden from profile or Archive
- All your hidden/archived posts appear here, sorted by date
From here you can restore individual posts or leave them hidden.
Difference: Hide, Archive, and Delete
| Action | What it does | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|
| Hide from timeline | Post moves to Archive, not visible on your profile | Yes โ unarchive anytime |
| Archive | Same as above | Yes โ unarchive anytime |
| Hide post (others' posts) | Stops it appearing in your News Feed | Yes โ via News Feed settings |
| Delete | Permanently removes the post (mobile) or moves to Trash for 30 days (desktop) | Only within 30 days on desktop |
Why Can't I Find My Hidden Post?
If a post isn't appearing in your Archive or Activity Log:
- It may have been deleted rather than hidden โ check the Trash in Activity Log (desktop only)
- If permanently deleted, it cannot be recovered
- If it was a shared post (not your original content), hiding it removes it from your view but the original still exists on the other person's profile
Summary
To unhide a post on Facebook:
- Your own hidden posts: Profile โ Archive โ find post โ Unarchive
- Via Activity Log: Profile โ Activity Log โ Hidden from profile โ Show on profile
- Others' posts from News Feed: Settings โ News Feed preferences โ Reconnect
All of this is reversible except permanent deletion. When in doubt, archive instead of delete โ you can always undo an archive.
