YouTube Playlist Length — FAQ

How do I find the length of a YouTube playlist?
Paste the playlist URL into the calculator and click Calculate. It shows the total duration, number of videos, average length, and time at different playback speeds.
Does YouTube show the total length of a playlist natively?
YouTube shows playlist length on the desktop sidebar of the playlist page in HH:MM:SS, but only for the videos currently visible. For long playlists, the YouTube native count is often truncated. This calculator pulls every video via the YouTube API for an accurate total.
Does this work with private playlists?
Public and unlisted playlists work. Private playlists cannot be accessed through the YouTube API.
Can I check the time at 2x speed?
Yes. After calculating, you will see a speed table showing the total time at 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, and 2x playback speeds.
Is there a limit on playlist size?
The calculator handles playlists up to YouTube's maximum of 5,000 videos. Longer playlists are processed in pages, so very large playlists may take a few seconds.
How accurate is the playlist length?
The duration is pulled directly from YouTube's official API and matches the timestamp shown on each individual video. Live streams in progress and unavailable videos are flagged separately.

How long is my YouTube playlist?

YouTube doesn't make total playlist length easy to find. The native UI shows duration only on desktop, only for visible videos, and skips deleted, region-blocked, or members-only videos. For a 200-video playlist, that estimate can be hours off.

This calculator pulls every video in the playlist via YouTube's official API, sums the durations, and shows you the total at 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, and 2x playback speeds — useful for planning study sessions, course bingeing, or audiobook-style listening.

Why use a YouTube playlist length calculator?

  • Plan study or training time. Tutorial playlists rarely advertise total runtime. Knowing it upfront helps you block calendar time accurately.
  • Estimate watch time at speed. A 30-hour playlist becomes 15 hours at 2x — knowing the math before you start is the difference between finishing and abandoning.
  • Audit your own playlists. Creators use playlist length as a content-planning signal: too short and the playlist looks thin; too long and viewers don't finish.
  • Compare playlists. Picking between two course playlists? Total runtime and average video length tell you which is denser.

Where to find a YouTube playlist URL

Open the playlist on YouTube. The URL in your browser's address bar will look like https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxxxxx. Copy the entire URL or just the list= parameter and paste it into the field above. Both formats work.
