How to see the tags on a YouTube video

1. Open the video on YouTube and copy its link from the address bar or the Share button.
2. Paste the link — a watch URL, a Shorts URL, a youtu.be link or the bare video ID — into the box above.
3. The tags appear as a list you can copy in one go, separated by commas, ready for YouTube Studio.

Tags are hidden on the watch page itself. YouTube still sends them inside the page data, which is where the extractor reads them from. Nothing is downloaded from the video and no account is needed.

How much tags actually matter

Less than most guides suggest. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery and are mainly useful for common misspellings of your title or channel name. Titles, thumbnails, the first lines of the description and how viewers behave after clicking carry far more weight. Treat a competitor's tags as a window into how they think about their topic, not as a ranking secret you can copy.

What to learn from someone else's tags

• The words they target. The first few tags usually repeat the phrase the creator wants to rank for. If it is also in the title, you have found the target query.
• Spellings and variants. Tags often list the alternatives people type — "vlog" and "v-log", the brand name with and without a space. Those are worth checking against your own description.
• Whether they bothered. Many large channels leave tags empty. A video ranking well with no tags is a useful reminder of where the real weight sits.

Using tags on your own videos

Keep them short and specific: the main phrase of the video, two or three close variations, your channel name, and misspellings people genuinely make. YouTube allows 500 characters in total. Stuffing unrelated popular tags goes against YouTube's spam policy and can get a video limited, so copy ideas from other creators, not their whole list.

Why a video shows no tags

Either the creator did not add any, or the video is private, age-restricted or removed, so the page data is not public. Shorts behave the same way as regular videos: if the creator added tags in Studio, they show up here.
