How to Delete a Single Facebook Post

On mobile (iPhone & Android)

  1. Go to your profile or News Feed and find the post
  2. Tap the three dots (⋯) in the top right corner of the post
  3. Tap Delete post
  4. Confirm by tapping Delete again

The post is removed immediately on mobile.

On desktop

  1. Find the post on your profile or News Feed
  2. Click the three dots (⋯) in the top right corner
  3. Click Move to trash
  4. Confirm

On desktop, Facebook moves posts to a Trash folder for 30 days before permanently deleting them. This gives you a recovery window.

How to Delete a Facebook Post You Shared

If you shared someone else's post and want to remove it from your profile:

  1. Go to your profile and find the shared post
  2. Tap the three dots (⋯) in the top right corner
  3. Tap Delete post (or Move to trash on desktop)
  4. Confirm

This removes the share from your profile. The original post on the other person's profile is not affected.

How to Delete a Post in a Facebook Group

If you posted it

  1. Go to the Facebook group
  2. Find your post
  3. Tap the three dots (⋯)Delete post
  4. Confirm

If you're a group admin

Group admins and moderators can delete any post:

  1. Find the post in the group
  2. Tap the three dots (⋯)
  3. Tap Delete post
  4. Optionally, choose to mute or remove the member who posted it

Group post deletions are logged in the Admin Activity Log so other admins can see what was removed.

How to Delete a Facebook Story

Stories are temporary (24 hours) but you can delete them before they expire:

On mobile

  1. Open your active Story
  2. Tap the three dots (⋯) or More in the bottom right
  3. Tap Delete
  4. Confirm

On desktop

  1. Click your Story at the top of the News Feed
  2. Click the three dots (⋯)
  3. Click Delete story

Deleted Stories cannot be recovered. If you have Story Archive enabled, past stories may still be saved in your archive even after expiring — but once deleted manually, they're gone permanently.

How to Delete a Facebook Reel

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Find the Reel (it may be in a "Reels" tab)
  3. Tap the three dots (⋯)
  4. Tap Delete
  5. Confirm

If the Reel was cross-posted to Instagram, deleting it on Facebook does not delete it on Instagram. You'll need to delete it separately on each platform.

How to Delete All Facebook Posts at Once

Facebook doesn't have a single "Delete everything" button, but the Activity Log lets you bulk-select and delete multiple posts.

On mobile (iPhone & Android)

  1. Go to your Profile
  2. Tap the three dots (⋯) below your cover photo → Activity log
  3. Tap FilterYour posts
  4. Tap and hold a post to select it, then tap additional posts to multi-select
  5. Tap Delete at the top of the screen

On desktop

  1. Click your profile picture → your profile
  2. Click Manage posts (below your bio) or go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Your Facebook information → Activity log
  3. Under Activity log, click Your posts on the left
  4. Check the boxes next to posts you want to delete
  5. Click Delete at the top

You can select up to 50 posts at a time on desktop. For large-scale deletion, repeat the process multiple times.

How to Delete All Facebook Posts from a Specific Year

  1. Open Activity Log (see instructions above)
  2. Use the Year filter on the left to select a specific year (e.g., 2018)
  3. Select all visible posts
  4. Delete them
  5. Repeat for each year you want to clear

This is the fastest native way to delete old Facebook posts by year without any third-party tools.

How to Delete a Facebook Page Post

If you manage a Facebook Page:

  1. Go to your Page
  2. Find the post you want to delete
  3. Click or tap the three dots (⋯)
  4. Click Delete post
  5. Confirm

Important: Page posts are deleted immediately — they don't go to a Trash folder. There is no recovery option for deleted Page posts. Make sure you want it gone before confirming.

From Meta Business Suite

  1. Open Meta Business Suite (business.facebook.com)
  2. Go to Posts & Stories in the left menu
  3. Find the post
  4. Click the three dots (⋯)Delete post

Can You Recover a Deleted Facebook Post?

It depends on how and where the post was deleted.

If deleted on desktop (personal profile — moved to Trash)

Facebook keeps deleted posts in a Trash folder for 30 days before permanently deleting them.

To recover:

  1. Go to Activity Log
  2. Click Trash in the left sidebar (or search "Trash" in the filter)
  3. Find the post
  4. Click the three dots (⋯) next to it → Restore

The post reappears on your profile with the original date, comments, and reactions intact.

If deleted on mobile

Posts deleted on mobile are not moved to Trash — they are immediately and permanently deleted. There is no recovery.

If deleted from a Facebook Page

Page posts are deleted permanently — no Trash folder. They cannot be recovered.

After 30 days

Posts in Trash are automatically and permanently deleted after 30 days. Facebook does not provide any way to recover them after this period.

How to Find Your Facebook Trash Folder

On desktop

  1. Click your profile → Activity Log
  2. In the left panel, click Trash

Posts here stay for 30 days, then are automatically and permanently deleted.

On mobile

The Trash feature is accessible on the mobile app:

  1. Go to your Profile → tap the three dots (⋯)Activity log
  2. Look for Trash in the filter options

However, posts deleted directly on mobile bypass the Trash and are immediately removed.

Delete vs. Archive vs. Hide: What's the Difference?

ActionWhat happensVisible on profile?Recoverable?
Delete (mobile)Permanently removedNoNo
Delete (desktop)Moved to Trash for 30 daysNoYes, within 30 days
ArchiveHidden from profile, saved for youNoYes, anytime
Hide from profileHidden from your timeline, still existsNo (but visible to tagged people)Yes

When to use each

  • Delete when you want the post gone permanently
  • Archive when you want to hide it but might want it back later
  • Hide from profile when you want it off your timeline but don't mind if it still exists in other places (tags, shares)

How to archive a post

  1. Three dots (⋯) → Move to archive
  2. To find archived posts: Profile → Activity log → Archive
  3. To unarchive: find the post in Archive → three dots → Restore to profile

How to Delete Facebook Posts in Bulk (Faster Methods)

If you have hundreds or thousands of old posts to delete, Activity Log with year filters is the fastest native method. Here are some tips to speed it up:

Use the desktop browser version

Desktop allows you to select multiple posts at once with checkboxes, which is much faster than mobile.

Filter by content type

In Activity Log, filter by:

  • Posts you've written — your text posts and photos
  • Posts you were tagged in — remove tags from posts by others
  • Posts by others on your profile — content others posted to your timeline

Download your data first

Before mass-deleting, download a backup:

  1. Go to Settings → Your Facebook information → Download your information
  2. Select Posts and the date range
  3. Click Create file
  4. Download when ready

This saves a copy of everything before you delete.

Third-party tools

Some browser extensions claim to automate bulk deletion. Use these with extreme caution — they require account access and may:

  • Violate Facebook's Terms of Service
  • Risk your account being flagged or suspended
  • Not work reliably after Facebook UI changes

The Activity Log method is slower but safe and reliable.

How to Delete a Comment on a Facebook Post

Not deleting a post but just a comment?

Your comment on any post

  1. Find the comment
  2. Tap and hold (mobile) or hover and click the three dots (desktop)
  3. Tap Delete

Someone else's comment on your post

  1. Find the comment on your post
  2. Tap and hold (mobile) or hover and click the three dots (desktop)
  3. Tap Delete

As the post author, you can delete any comment on your post. This permanently removes the comment.

Summary

  • Delete one post: Three dots → Delete post (or Move to trash on desktop)
  • Delete many posts: Profile → Activity Log → filter by year → select and delete in batches
  • Delete a shared post: Three dots → Delete post (doesn't affect the original)
