How to Repost on TikTok (And What Reposting Actually Does)

What Does Reposting on TikTok Do?

TikTok's Repost feature shares someone else's video with your followers — similar to a retweet on X or a share on Facebook. When you repost a video:

  • It appears in your followers' For You feeds, attributed to the original creator
  • Your name appears as "reposted" alongside the original video
  • It does not appear on your profile grid
  • The original creator can see that you reposted their content

Reposting is different from downloading and re-uploading — it keeps the original creator credited and doesn't create a copy on your profile.

How to Repost a TikTok Video

On mobile (iOS or Android):

  1. Find the video you want to repost in your For You feed or on someone's profile
  2. Tap the Share button (arrow icon on the right side of the screen)
  3. In the share menu that appears, tap Repost
  4. The video is immediately reposted to your followers' feeds

That's it — no confirmation screen, no caption option. The repost happens instantly.

How to Undo a Repost on TikTok

Changed your mind? You can remove a repost easily.

  1. Find the original video (search for it or find it in your Following feed)
  2. Tap the Share button again
  3. You'll now see Remove repost instead of Repost
  4. Tap it — the repost is removed immediately

Where Do Reposted Videos Appear?

What your followers see: The reposted video appears in their For You page feed with a note saying "[Your name] reposted" above the video. They see the original creator's content, not yours.

What shows on your profile: Reposted videos do not appear on your profile grid. Your profile stays clean with only your own content.

What you can see: There is currently no dedicated "Reposts" tab on your profile to see all videos you've reposted. To find a repost you've made, you'd need to find the original video and check the Share button.

Repost vs. Duet vs. Stitch: What's the Difference?

FeatureWhat it doesShows on your profile
RepostShares original video to your followers' feedsNo
DuetCreates a side-by-side video with the originalYes
StitchClips part of the video and adds your responseYes
Download + re-uploadCreates a copy on your profileYes (but against creator's rights)

Use Repost when you want to signal boost content without creating your own video. Use Duet or Stitch when you want to add your own reaction or commentary.

Can Anyone Disable Reposts on Their Videos?

Yes. Creators can turn off the Repost option for their videos.

To disable reposts on your own videos:

  1. Go to your video
  2. Tap ...Privacy settings
  3. Toggle off Allow reposts

If a creator has disabled reposts, the Repost button won't appear in the share menu for that video.

Is Reposting Good for Your TikTok Account?

Reposting doesn't directly grow your own follower count or boost your video views — it shows someone else's content, not yours. But there are strategic reasons to use it:

  • Community building — Reposting content from your niche positions you as a curator and can attract followers interested in that topic
  • Collaboration signal — Reposting a collaborator or brand partner's content is a way to show support
  • Engagement reciprocity — Some creators repost each other's content as a mutual support strategy

Don't rely on reposting as a growth strategy. TikTok's algorithm grows accounts based on your own original videos, not reposts.

Summary

To repost on TikTok: tap the Share arrow on any video → tap Repost. To undo: tap Share again → Remove repost.

Reposted videos go to your followers' feeds but don't appear on your profile. It's TikTok's version of a share or retweet — useful for amplifying content you like, but it won't grow your own account.

If you want to actually grow on TikTok, the best strategy remains consistent, original content posted on a regular schedule. PostLink lets you schedule TikTok videos in advance so you never miss a day.
