How the timestamp works

YouTube reads a t parameter in seconds. ?t=90 and ?t=1m30s both open at a minute and a half; the plain second count is the safest across apps and embeds.

Where each form belongs

• watch?v=…&t=90s — the full form, best for descriptions and anywhere the link is clicked on desktop.
• youtu.be/…?t=90 — short and tidy in chats and comments; it opens in the app on mobile.

Timestamps in comments and descriptions

You do not need a link at all inside your own video description or a comment on it: writing 1:30 as plain text turns into a clickable jump automatically. Links are for sending someone to a moment in a video from somewhere else.

How to make a YouTube link that starts at a time

1. Copy the video link from the address bar or the Share button.
2. Paste it above and type the moment you want — 1:30, 01:02:15 or plain seconds all work.
3. Copy the finished link. Anyone who opens it lands at that second instead of the start.

You can do the same on YouTube itself: pause the video, right-click the player and choose "Copy video URL at current time", or tick "Start at" in the Share window. The generator is quicker when you already know the time, or when you are building several links in a row — for show notes, a newsletter or a list of highlights.

Common uses

• Pointing at the answer. Reply to a question with a link to the exact minute of a long tutorial that covers it.
• Show notes and blog posts. A written summary of a podcast episode with a link to each topic.
• Feedback and review. Editors and clients can point at the frame they mean instead of describing it.
• Livestream highlights. A past stream is hours long; a list of timestamp links turns it into something people can browse.

When a timestamp link does not work

Links to Shorts ignore the start time, because Shorts always play from the beginning. Some embedded players and link previews in chat apps also drop the parameter. If a link opens at the start, check that the t value survived when it was pasted, and that the video is longer than the time you asked for.
