Why videos get blocked in some countries
- Music licensing. The most common cause by far. Rights are sold territory by territory, so a track cleared in the US may be blocked across Europe.
- Uploader choice. Creators can allow or block specific countries themselves, often for premieres or region-specific campaigns.
- Legal orders. Governments can require YouTube to withhold content locally.
- Age or sign-in gates. Not a region block, but the effect looks the same to a viewer who is signed out.
What this check can and cannot tell you
It reads what YouTube publishes about the video: its playability status, any stated reason, and the country list when one is exposed. It cannot prove availability in a country nobody has tested from — only YouTube Studio, for your own videos, gives the full picture.
If your own video is blocked
Open Studio, check the copyright tab for a claim naming the affected territories, and either swap the track, trim the claimed section, or accept the block. If you set country restrictions yourself, they live under the video's advanced settings.
